Vintage Advantage: For Comox Valley Residents seeking Employment or Self-Employment

Applications for this program are only accepted when advertised. Keep an eye out for announcements on this website or the local newspapers.

Vintage Advantage will have 10 participants who will all be:

  1. 50 to 65+ years old, with priority given to people between 55 and 64*
  2. Unemployed, with priority given to those who are not EI eligible**
  3. Legally entitled to work in Canada
  4. Able to commit full-time for the entire program
  5. Lacking skills needed for successful integration into new employment
  6. Residents of the Comox Valley

Income Support is available for participants while attending the program.

Priority will be given to those involuntarily displaced as a result of a downsizing or closure, including workers displaced from their jobs as a result of the downsizing of other industries or businesses who have been affected by reduced community spending.

In the event that there are more than 10 applicants meeting all of the above conditions, priority will be given to those interested in pursuing one of the targeted areas for community economic development:

  • Agrifood and Beverage Processing
  • Air Transportation
  • Knowledge-Based and Environmental Technology
  • Resort Development
  • Value Added Wood Processing
  • Film

*Exceptions are made for people 50-54(inclusive) years of age and people 65 and over if the intent of the individual is to participate in the labour force for a minimum of two or more years. Any exceptions made will not be to the exclusion of eligible applicants between 55 and 64 (inclusive) years of age.

**Priority will be given to those not receiving EI. benefits currently and have not received E.I. benefits in the past three years, or five years in the case of maternity or parental E.I. claims.
